- Why Who When and What for
Dear Friends of Bethel Park Ministries:
WORKWEEK at BETHEL
PARK!
Why, Who, When and
What For?
Trust
me, during the past 20 years this question surfaced more than
once!
WHY?
In
the early 70's the clergy of the German District recognized
the ever expanding responsibilities of Bethel Park were demanding
a great deal of time and energy from the District Leadership.
It was noted that it was not expected of the then Superintendent
- Alvin Sprecher to carry such a heavy workload regarding
the on-going demands of Bethel Park.
Their
solution: create and coordinate a setting wherein their talents
could be used to meet the needs of BP and at the same time
provide fellowship opportunities for believers of like faith.
WHO?
In
that meeting it was also determined that everyone that was
in some form or fashion (churches/clergy/lay, etc.) connected
with Bethel Park be encouraged to support and participate
in 2 district annually sponsored workweeks.
WHEN?
Spring
Workweek in May - Fall - in October.
WHAT FOR?
WORK:
The reality of the matter is Bethel Park, like most churches
has always been dependent on the assistance of volunteers
to carry out and expedite the majority of the workload. The
time volunteers spend at BP ranges from 6 days to 6 hours
- per workweek, however the bottom line is - much is accomplished
for the Kingdom of God!!
FELLOWSHIP:
Something often overlooked is the opportunity this occasion
provides is the ability to have wonderful fellowship with
a cross section of fellow believers. This aspect alone has
generated countless blessings for God's people. Workweek includes:
Praying, reading the Word, crying, laughing, eating, sleeping
and lots, lots more!!
VISION:
The present leadership of Bethel Park strongly supports the
efforts of a Workweek concept. Something very positive happens
when God's people stand shoulder to shoulder - working for
the Master. It is very encouraging to observe young and old
team up together, doing what 1 or 2 cannot.
THANK
YOU!
Words
fail to adequately express the appreciation and gratitude
leadership has for those who throughout the years have so
freely given of themselves for such a worthy cause. I am convinced
only Eternity will be able to realistically reveal the weight
and value of every contribution.
Several
weeks ago while vacationing, 2 people who in their younger
years had regularly attended the BP camping activities stopped
in to say hi. They were thrilled to revisit and reconnect,
with memories of the past flooding their mind. Excitement
filled their heart, as they were able to see firsthand the
preservation of the past, as well as the improvement for present
and future usage of these hallowed grounds.
Many are the people that have been blessed because of this
special place called, “Bethel Park”. For us it
is always a joy to see and hear from those whose lives have
been so impacted.
Truly,
these "hallowed grounds" are a reflection of your
love, care and interest!
Sincerely,
David D. Rueb
